Mr. Hagood began his marital arts study in 1980 by taking lessons during his lunch-hour at a park. When his ambitions took him to the tournament ring, he was discouraged by the level of training he was receiving. He decided to seek a more professional approach to his martial arts training. That search lead him to the Idaho Karate Kung Fu Association in 1981. He continued there as a student until 1986, at which time he became the studio manager.
He received his black belt in 1987. Two years later, he purchased the Idaho Karate Kung Fu Association and renamed it the Idaho Kenpo Karate Association
Mr. Hagood was promoted to 7th degree black belt by Mr. Paul Dye on September 16th, 2006. As he reflects upon his early days of training, he realizes that one of the most enjoyable aspects of his career was the opportunity to compete in several local, regional, and international competitions. During these competitions, Mr. Hagood was successful in earning numerous grand champion trophies. He was a forms and fighting grand champion for several years in the Northwest.
For three consecutive years, he was invited to join an international team representing the United States.
